This program is designed for those who want a thorough preparation to become a teacher. It is also ideal for those who understand that the knowledge it takes to become a teacher is the same knowledge that will make a person a superior dancer. Dollar for dollar, it is the best value you can find.
What’s covered:
All the syllabus steps, both leaders’ and followers’ parts, and all variations, for 17 different dances: waltz, tango, foxtrot, viennese waltz, rumba, cha cha, swing, bolero, west coast swing, mambo, salsa, argentine tango, two step, hustle, merengue, samba, and mambo. The steps are from the Dance Vision Bronze syllabus, one of the most popular and universally recognized dance steplists in the United States and around the world. The attendees will be fully prepared to take a teacher certification exam through the Dance Vision organization and receive independent certification/
The program is also designed to cover dance technique, history of dances, how to teach group classes, and how to teach private lessons.
A graduate of the program will feel confident both as a dancer and as an instructor, and will be fully prepared to begin a new career as a ballroom and latin dance instructor.
How the Program Works:
The class is scheduled to take place twice a week for two hours at a time. The program is divided into four quarters with a short break between each quarter. Each quarter is devoted to four or five dances at a time from start to finish. Each quarter is four months long. The entire program takes 16 months.
Enrollment is for each quarter separately. Enrollees can take quarters consecutively, or may opt out of a particular quarter and pick up again at the next quarter. Accelerated programs are anticipated to be developed as the program expands in the future.
The first quarter will begin Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until Thursday, December 18, 2008. (Thanksgiving Day class will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26 instead.) The dances of Rumba, Cha Cha, Bolero, and East Coast Swing will be taught. The location of the program is at Dance Charisma, 3650 S. Jones Blvd., #16, Las Vegas, Nevada.
The anticipated future quarters will be as follows:
The second quarter will begin Tuesday, January 6, and continue until Thursday, April 23, 2009.
The third quarter will begin Tuesday, May 5 and continue until Thursday, August 20, 2009.
The fourth quarter will begin Tuesday, September 1, and continue until Thursday, Dec. 27, 2009.

Other payment options are available.
In addition, all enrollees may attend all of the group classes offered at Dance Charisma at no additional charge.
Other expenses:
Attendees are expected to purchase dance manuals in American Rhythm and American Smooth, directly from Dance Vision. Attendees will also need to obtain Dance Charisma Trainee Binders with supplemental material. Attendees are expected to wear dance shoes.
The cost of final professional certification by Dance Vision (DVIDA) is not included in the tuition.
The program was designed by Diane Jarmalow of the Cheryl Burke Dance Studio, formerly The Metronome, in San Francisco. This program has been widely implemented around the United States and Canada with remarkable success. Some states have granted the program full credit as a vocational school. The curriculum is known for its excellence and thoroughness.
The Master Instructor for this program is David White, a dance instructor with some 17 years of dance experience, training, and teaching. He is fully certified in the Dance Vision curriculum and by other respected dance organizations as well. Guest instructors include Elen Marsh and Nancy Nies, among others, with considerable teaching, certification, and competition experience as well.
Prerequisites to attending this program:
Many people who enroll in this program have considerable dance experience. However, no experience is necessary. The program is designed to provide anyone with the experience and skills necessary to become a certified instructor. All that’s required is a desire to dance.
Benefits of Teacher Training:
The first benefit is experienceing the joy of dance. The advantage of this in-depth program is that the student will learn proper dance technique from day 1, which creates a feeling like no other.
Just as important is learning a new vocation, a career full of happiness and good health. Your new students will be excited and happy to see you, and look forward to their time spent with you. Your job makes people happy, and you make yourself happy at the same time. Exercise is the fountain of youth and good health. Dance is the most fun exercise around, and dancing is probably as ancient and primal a human activity as life itself. It satisfies a basic human need of connection and interaction, while it is as sophisticated and modern as a night on the town.
Your opportunities are bountiful. You can teach part-time or full-time. You can travel the world and teach anywhere. You can obtain work on cruise ships. If you develop a career in the dance business, you can coach, judge, or own your own school. You can work independently or on staff at a school. You can develop curriculum in underserved areas such as health clubs. It is a widely expanding field and because of the basic human need it satisfies, it is a career for the ages, both recession-proof and unable to be replaced by any machine or technical marvel.
You can develop your dancing to find a partner and enter dance competitions or perform in shows. You can use it to supplement any career in the performing arts. The skills of a ballroom and latin dancer are the envy of many in Hollywood, as it’s the hottest new skill on television.
In the past, dance studios engaged in a crash course to create new instructors. These instructors were put on the dance floor long before they completed the material contained in this program. Both they and their students were often shortchanged by the lack of experience of the new teacher. Many teachers could not learn enough on their own after the initial course of teacher training to develop their skills to the point where teaching became easy, accurate, and second nature. The pitfalls of such a venture are obvious.
This program is designed to change all that and raise the bar for new instructors throughout the Las Vegas community. Plus, the fact that the program takes place with just a few hours’ commitment over many months’ time gives the prospective new teacher the chance to develop a long-term working relationship at Dance Charisma or other dance establishments while still holding a full-time job elsewhere. If tuition or time is a real issue, the prospective student can enroll in a single 4-month quarter, and take a break before re-enrolling. The prospective teacher can achieve certification in any number of dances completed — even in just a single dance, if desired — at the end of each quarter.

Whether taken as a stand-alone program or in conjunction with a program including private lessons, you can become the professional you dream of being.
